About the role

Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human

Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

Okta's Identity Governance (OIG) organization is looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer to join our Identity Administration team — a team that is directly responsible for one of the most critical and visible workflows in enterprise identity: how employees request, approve, and gain access to the resources they need.

Opportunity

As a Staff Engineer on the OIG Identity Administration team, you will be involved in development, design, and maintenance of our product to serve enterprise customers at scale. You will involve the development and evolution of our product features — spanning the across different identity entities and personas — and work collaboratively across engineering, product, and design to deliver features that are secure, scalable, and delightful to use.

This is a role for someone who thinks in systems, leads with craft, and is energized by the challenge of building enterprise-grade software that millions of users depend on.

This is a rare opportunity to join a team where your technical decisions will directly shape how thousands of enterprises manage access governance at scale, where the technical challenges are genuinely hard, and where the work you ship will be seen and felt by real users every day.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of user-facing features for Identity Administration, from the UI components down to the API and data persistence layers.
  • Partner closely with UX Designers and Product Managers to translate complex administrative workflows into simple, powerful user experiences.
  • Build and maintain scalable, responsive, and accessible web applications using React and modern state management libraries.
  • Design and implement performant RESTful APIs and backend services in Java to support new multi-org management capabilities.
  • Ensure high code quality through comprehensive unit and integration testing across the entire stack (e.g., Jest/Cypress for frontend, JUnit for backend).
  • Participate in technical design sessions, ensuring that frontend requirements are reflected in backend architecture and vice versa.
  • Work with senior engineering team in major development projects, design and implementation
  • Participate in on-call rotations and collaborate with SRE to ensure the reliability and uptime of applications
  • Partner with our Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping the development and deployment work

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • 7+ years of professional experience of full stack experience in building and maintaining production-grade web applications.
  • Expert-level knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and React. Experience with modern build tools and CSS frameworks.
  • Strong experience with Java (Spring/Dropwizard) and/or Golang.
  • Deep understanding of RESTful API principles, JSON handling, and secure communication between frontend and backend.
  • Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and JWT—specifically how they relate to session management and frontend authentication.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL).

Nice to haves

  • Experience using tools like Splunk or SignalFX to debug issues across the full stack.
  • A keen eye for design and experience working with design systems or component libraries.
  • Understanding of how to build and deploy services across isolated infrastructure units

Education and Training

  • B.S. Computer Science or related field
